What is the Most Useful Method for Treating Depression?

By Foras Aje From research, it is safe to say the most useful method for treating depression usually consists of a combination of modalities. There is no ONE simple solution. However, this is not to say that solutions are not within reach, quite the contrary actually. Working together, each treatment enhances the others. Most Holistic (or otherwise alternative) methods of treating depression that lean more towards natural choices tend to emphasize the use of the following components: 1. A proper diet 2. Adequate Exercise 3. Positive Thinking From observation, these options are of importance more in a reverse order. However, it will be closed-minded to simply take one option or technique and stick with it, thus other tips that could come in handy and could be combined with the options above and/or with conventional depression medications (which should be used at your own discretion), include * Setting realistic goals in light of the depression and assume a reasonable amount of responsibility. * Breaking large tasks into small ones, set some priorities, and do what you can as you can. * Trying to be with other people and to confide in someone; it is usually better than being alone and secretive. * Participating in activities that may make you feel better. * Expecting your mood to improve gradually, not immediately. Feeling better takes time. * Postponing important decisions until the depression has lifted. * Letting your family and friends help you. Deducing the most useful method for depression treatment is an understandable goal for many a depressed person, so remember that you are not alone and with the tips above, this author sincerely hopes that you can find what will work for you. Cruisin to Lose

By Constance Weygandt Recently, I won a family cruise on the Regis and Kelly talk show. For a person whose business is fitness that is a good news, bad news dilemma. Statistically, an average of 5 lbs. per person is gained on a cruise. The camera adds about 10 lbs. I set out to see if it was possible to have a great time, enjoy the food and not gain the obligatory 5 lbs. ( My other alternative was to hide behind a potted palm for the duration so as not to be seen by the cameras.) The following five tips really work: 1. Walk, Walk, Walk Take a walk around the deck with a loved one or get on the treadmill first thing in the morning before you start your day. When you stop at port walk if it is a short distance instead of taking a cab or shuttle. 2. Use the Stairs My cabin was located on deck 7. Everything of interest was either two decks down or four to five decks up. I rarely took the elevator. 3. Dance the Night Away My sisters and I went dancing for 3 hours, one night. We had a wonderful family experience and felt the mild pull of muscles we didnt know existed, the next day. 4. For Every Alcoholic beverage you consume have two large glasses of water. I think this one is self-explanatory. 5. Limit Yourself to one luscious dessert a day. If you have a danish at breakfast, forego the pie at lunch and the chocolate truffle at dinner. The anticipation of that one dessert really adds to the pleasure of savoring your choice. The key: I limited myself in such a way that I did not feel deprived and increased my activity so that I felt good physically. I did not gain a pound. And if you get a peek at me on the Regis and Kelly show, I wont mind at all. Lotions vs. Skin Care Creams

By Ellen Biddle There is no dearth of skin care creams and lotions in the market. Name an ailment, and you will find hundreds of skin care creams, lotions and other products for it. As a result of ongoing research and due to ever increasing demand, the number of skin care products seems to be on the increase. Skin care lotions and skin care creams are the most popular forms in which these products are available, and there always seems to be a debate on which form is better? Well, there is no definitive answer to this. It seems more like a matter of personal choice. However, greasy creams are surely less popular as compared to the non-greasy (or less greasy) ones. Since the application of skin care creams is easier, they seem to be preferred (over lotions) in cases where the skin care product is not to be removed immediately after application. So, skin care creams seem more popular as moisturisers than as cleansers or toners. For toners, lotions seem to be preferred over skin care creams. There are some skin care creams that acts as toners too, but generally the toners are available in liquid form only. For cleansing, lotions and skin care creams are equally popular; however, the tilt seems more towards lotions. Creams are known to be most effective in keeping skin moist; hence, the most popular form of skin care creams is moisturisers. Due to the same reason, a lot of people tend to associate skin care creams with dry and sensitive skin. Though it is true to a certain extent, skin care creams are not used only for dry skin, they are also used for making products for oily skin e.g. vitamin A creams and sulphur creams that help reduce the rate of sebum production. Skin care creams are also used for products that cater to skin disorders especially for disorders that require the application of product over a small localised area. This is again due to the fact that skin care creams are easier to apply (without wastage) on the affected area. However, in cases where skin needs to be washed using a medicine/product, lotion is a better choice. Mostly, the manufacturers too realize this fact, making it easier for you to choose between a lotion and a skin care cream Eye-creams and anti-ageing creams are other examples where skin care cream is preferred over its lotion counterpart. Whatever your choice be (cream or lotion), knowing how to use it effectively, is more important than anything else. Making Plans For Your Dallas Wedding

By Jason Martinez Congratulations, you and your espoused are on your way to making a lifelong commitment. Between now and your wedding day, youll be planning for what will be one of the biggest events in your life marriage to the one that you love. The busiest days of wedding planning are just ahead of you, with reception venue, wedding party details, and a whole host of other matters to tend to. If you are planning on getting married in the Dallas area, then the fine points as outlined here will help relieve some pressure as you organize your plans. A Date And A Venue Your wedding plans will involve much more than the size of your wedding or even your honeymoon planning. Coming up with a date and a venue will determine virtually every other aspect of your wedding day. Many couples give strong consideration to holding an outdoors wedding event, particularly in a setting rich with flora and fauna. Historic Lee Park is most popular during the months when Dallas humidity is at its lowest. During the hotter months, Arlington Hall at Lee Park provides the majestic setting that so many couples desire. Arlington Hall is able to accommodate small, intimate wedding parties as well as lavish, wondrous weddings for as many as 500 guests. You and your guests can beat the heat and feel refreshed with the halls air-conditioning keeping everyone comfortable. Besides Arlington Hall, couples will often take a look at the Dallas Museum of Art as a special place to hold a wedding. With three options available including the Harmon Atrium, Seventeen Seventeen dining hall, or the breathtaking outdoor Sculpture Garden, the museum could be a memorable setting for any couple in love. Favorite hotels in Dallas for weddings include the Hotel Adolphus and the Crescent Court Hotel. Choose the Adolphus if its near century long tradition of hosting weddings appeals to you or select the Crescent Court if modern day elegance is what you want. Either hotel can accommodate your wedding guests and both hotels will be a favorite place for your out of town guests to stay too. When Help Is Needed Todays busy couples cannot imagine arranging for their own festive event without some sort of outside assistance. While a family member or friend can be of immense help with making arrangements, most couples choose professional assistance in the form of a wedding planner to provide the help that they need. A knowledgeable wedding planner is able to listen to what a couple wants and turn those desires into a successful wedding event. Relying upon her vast storehouse of wedding vendor contacts and previous planning skills, a capable wedding planner can relieve the couple of all of the unavoidable pressures associated with organizing a grand affair so that they can look forward to their big day in peace. Enjoying Your Day And Each Other When it comes down to it, a wedding should be about you and your spouse, not the scores of attendant responsibilities that come with arranging your special day. An accomplished wedding planner taps her favorite resources to present a graceful event that allows the newlyweds to enjoy their special day, the company of their guests, and above all else each other. If you should need assistance planning your wedding, it would be a wise decision to contact a dallas wedding planner to help you achieve the day you have always dreamed about. Lose Weight With a Healthy Diet

By Jordi Shoman A healthy diet should include foods from the four main food groups. One of the best ways to lose weight is to follow the food pyramid and eat the suggested servings of each food group for your age. This method of healthy eating does require planning and you need to have a copy of the food pyramid in front of you as you plan your menu for the week. Planning a weekly menu is a good way to get started and once you do this for several weeks, the kinds and amounts of foods that you should be eating will soon become clear to you. Although junk food is a no-no when you are on a diet, many people who do eat healthy foods still indulge in their favorite snacks from time to time. There is nothing wrong with treating yourself from time to time as long as you don’t make it a practice or overindulge. There are also differences in what vegetarians term “healthy foods”, so if you don’t eat meat, it does mean that you exclude all animal proteins from your diet. Proteins are essential nutrients that vegetarians might be at risk of not getting unless they pay particular attention to their foods. Soy is comparable to animal protein and should be included in a daily diet if you are a vegetarian. Other sources of protein include * Dry beans * Peas * Lentils Some grains and vegetables are also good sources of protein. Soy milk and tofu are good sources of calcium and green leafy plants are a good source of iron. Even if you are not a vegetarian, these foods will help to complement your diet and help you to feel full. All dieters should include a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement just to make sure. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day helps to flush out the burned calories and keep your body functioning the way it should. Interested in Healthy Eating? Invitation Anatomy 101 - Typical Components - Part 1 of 3

By Laura Paladino What am I supposed to have in my invitation? This is one of the most common questions I get asked. The answer is quite simple: Anything! Its true that convention doesnt quite apply anymore with respect to what goes for an invitation these days. That being said, there are a lot of components in the most common invitation styles. I should caution that there are literally thousands of options available some a lot more unconventional and some are even bizarre. For the sake of brevity, Ill keep my breakdown constrained to the more common components and options used in invitations today (as about 85-90% of invitation orders inevitably consist of these). Ive broken down my Invitation Anatomy 101 into two lessons: Typical Components and Optional (or Additional Components). The first Ill describe here: Typical Components 1) The Outer Envelope Anchors your invitation package. This is your guests first impression of your wedding or event at the mailbox! It is a good idea to have your return address printed on the back flap of the envelope in the same lettering as your invitation. Your guests address may be handwritten neatly or written using the services of a calligrapher. Outer Envelopes should be reasonably sturdy and presented to your post office (fully stuffed) to determine exact postage prior to stamping and mailing. 2) The Inner Envelope Historically, inner envelopes were created to provide added protection to the contents of letters. That is, the outer envelope often suffered quite a bit of wear and tear between destinations, so the inner envelope would preserve the contents while identifying the recipient if the original address information wore away. The need for an inner envelope no longer exists, but the romantic tradition remains. Nowadays, the inner envelope identifies only the invitees within the household (e.g. Mr. & Mrs. Wilhelm Schneider). No address is written on the inner envelope. All contents of your invitation package are placed inside the inner envelope. Usually the inner envelope back flap is left folded, but unsealed. On a side note, Ive found that amongst my clients only a small handful a year actually end up ordering inner envelopes. The decline in the use of Inner Envelopes is primarily due to the durability and material quality of custom invitation outer envelopes. This makes Inner Envelopes both expensive and redundant. On a side note, Ive found that amongst my clients only a small handful a year actually end up ordering inner envelopes. The decline in the use of Inner Envelopes is primarily due to the durability and material quality of custom invitation outer envelopes. This makes Inner Envelopes both expensive and redundant. 3) The Invitation Obviously, the most essential component of your invitation package. If your invitation is a folded card, all other components should be placed inside the invitation. If this is not possible, or your invitation consist of a one-sided card, place all other components on top of the invitation. The goal here is to make the invitation package as neat and tidy as possible. As mentioned, anything goes when it comes to invitations. However, some typical features of a custom or custom-inspired invitation may include the following: Outer Card Heavier weighted stock that envelops or mattes the invitation contents. This is the foundation of your invitation. The outer card can be anything from a plain card backing, to a pocket-fold enclosure to a multi-panel pocketed fold-out! Outer Embellishments Known as the finishing touches on the exterior of the invitation. This can be a ribbon tie, wax seal, monogram, matted graphic, pictures, foil stamped image, name, slogan, clasp, etc. Inner Card(s) Usually, an inner card contains your invitation wording. There are hundreds of inner card options including, vellums, vellum overlays, mounted card, bound card, embossed cards, imported stationeries, decorative papers, embellished card or paper, folded cards, loose cards, etc. 4) The RSVP, Response, or Reply Card Just as important as the invitation, the size and expense of your event is largely determined by the number of accepted/returned RSVP cards. RSVP cards usually contain a blank line where the guest fills in his/her name and indicates the number of persons attending from his/her party. Usually an addressed and pre-stamped envelope is included to encourage your guest to respond as soon as possible. RSVP cards can contain other information such as multiple dining options which must be chosen, or spaces for comments, requests, feedback etc. TIP: Lightly number each RSVP card with a corresponding guest/invitation list. That way, if any RSVP card is returned blank without the senders information, youll know exactly which guest it is. RSVP sizes are usually much smaller than invitations and contain an appropriately-sized return envelope. However, there is a trend towards more oversized RSVP cards (though still smaller than the invitation size). Congratulations, now that youve completed the first lesson, youre ready for the Invitation Anatomy 101Optional Components articles now. So, When IS The Right Time For A Short Hair Cut?

By Michael Barrows The short hair cut is as popular as ever and more and more women are taking the plunge and sporting ultra-short locks. From the heavily textured and spiked to the soft and feminine, there is no doubt that the short hair cut is here to stay and has proven to be one of the most popular hair cut styles among women. But how do you know if you should go short with your new hair cut or when you should take the plunge? For most, the answer to these questions is going to be a personal decision, but there are some guidelines that you can follow to help you decide whether or not a short hair cut is for you. Choosing the right hair cut style should be a joint effort between you and your stylist. With her professional advice as to what will look sensational on you and your personal preference, together you should be able to find numerous new hair cuts that are perfect for your individual personality, tastes and features. When to go for the short hair cut and when not to You should choose a short hair cut if you prefer shorter styles or if you have been thinking about going short for a while. If you have already worn a short hair cut in the past and loved it, then you are one step ahead of the game. Likely, you will have a good idea of what short cuts will look good on you and which cuts will give you the most styling ease and freedom. You should not choose a short hair cut just because it is trendy or you saw it on someone else and want to achieve the same effect. While some hair cut styles will look just as great on you as they do on others, getting a short hair cut on a whim is never a good idea. If you see something you like, think about it for a while before deciding to get a new hair cut. Even better - use one of the interactive online hair galleries, to test out the look before you buy Never get a short hair cut for emotional reasons. Having a bad hair day? Do not cut your hair off in anger. If you do, you may end up fighting with dreaded tresses that are much too short for your particular style. Instead, go for a trim or a style that is just slightly shorter than the one you already have. How to go short If you have never had a short hair cut, you should go shorter gradually to reduce the level of shock experienced with getting a short hair cut and to see if you are going to like wearing shorter styles. Be prepared to experience some level of shock, though, even if you only shorten your style by a few inches. Talk to your stylist and decide what type of short hair cut is your ultimate goal. Then, choose several hair cut styles that you can get over the course of a few months that will decrease your hair’s length gradually. That way when you finally take the plunge and get the short hair cut you will know that you will be comfortable with it. Nothing is worse than trying to grow out a short hair cut that you hate. Character: What Is It? How Does It Affect Our Relationships?

By Joel Orr Our character is formed by the choices we repeatedly make, and by the choices we determine not to repeat. I like the old Russian saying: A fool learns from his own mistakes. A wise man learns from the mistakes of others. I also like the definition of insanity I once heard: Insanity is doing the same thing over and overand expecting different results each time. But lets face it: We dont all start out in life with parents who have a clear view of how to help us develop good character. They may have meant well, but for the most part they were winging it. So we enter into life with characters that are unevenly developed. Thats the bad news. The good news is that Life will supply us with the lessons we need to strengthen the weak areas of our character. The biggest asset we can have in facing these challenges is a clear realization that building character is the purpose of human life. We are working at it every moment of our existence here, and its the only thing we take with us when we leave. So, if we live consciously, recognizing that the core of our purpose in life is to build and refine our own character through the way we treat ourselves and others, we can avoid the insanity trap of doing the same mistaken things over and over while expecting things to change. All these things apply to women as well as to men. But men usually have the greater hurdles to get over in order to resist letting their character slump. Just as a potential Olympic champion must continually strive to exceed his own best, and needs good coaching to do it, so a man needs to strive to exceed his own best, and needs good coaching to do it. In marriage, Ive discovered that a good model to adopt is the Hero/Coach model. Every man is born knowing he is a herothat he has a special purpose to fulfill, that only he can do. And every woman, when she sees the man that is to be her husband, sees that heroic vision, and sees what it will take for him to fulfill it. So she takes on the role of coach. (In my book, Every Man a Hero, Every Woman a Coach, I explain about the heroic role of women, too, and the coaching a good husband gets to do.) One of the main jobs of the Coach is to help the Hero build his character by showing him that he is making the same mistakes over and over, and that there are alternatives that will give him more of what he wants. Thats what every good coach does for their hero, but it is a difficult job. No one wants to be told they can do better. But getting this coaching is part of the Heros quest. Some growth and improvement will happen in the course of overcoming challenges, but the character-building process can be accelerated by becoming conscious of it. Character has something in common with the weather: Everyone talks about it, but few people do anything about it. So my goal in this section is to focus your attention on what you can do in the realm of character improvement with the help of wisdom capsules in the form of quotations. Face it: If you are not entirely happy with your life, you need to change something. Waiting for change while doing the same ol same ol is futile. The most important self-improvement project in your lifeit runs in parallel with everything else you do, have done, or will dois the purposeful construction of your character. William James, in a talk to teachers on Habit, said, We are stereotyped creatures, imitators and copiers of our past selves. What we become is not the result of a single act, but of the cumulative decisions and actions of our lives. Beryl Markham, 20th-century English adventurer and author, wrote, If a man has any greatness in him, it comes to light, not in one flamboyant hour, but in the ledger of his daily work. Jenny Craig, of weight-loss fame, said it well: Its not what you do once in a while; its what you do day in and day out that makes the difference. The word character comes from a root word that means, engraving tool. Thats why the (Random House) dictionary definition of character is: The aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of a person or thing; moral or ethical quality; qualities of honesty, fortitude, etc.; integrity; reputation. Of course, one can develop a bad character. But thats no accident either. From the point of view of physics, qualities of charactergood and badare highly organized; they are not arbitrary arrangements of traits. They do not occur spontaneously or accidentally; they are found only in those who repeatedly choose to act in certain ways, and not to act in other ways. No designer expects to produce a great design without a plan; in fact, plan and design have similar meanings. To produce great character, in yourself or in others, you must have a plan. Philosopher John Stuart Mill said, A character is a completely fashioned will. To develop good character, we work on our will. We exercise it according to our choices, and we are responsible for the outcome. Our life is like driving a car. If we close our eyes and take our hands off the steering wheel, we are still responsible for where the car goesand will bear the consequences of our choices. And be aware of your motives. President Woodrow Wilson offered this caution: “If you will think about what you ought to do for other people, your character will take care of itself. Character is a by-product, and any man who devotes himself to its cultivation in his own case will become a selfish prig.” This is why most wifely coaching consists of reminding a man to do his duty to others. As he does this, his character develops beauty and strength with minimum effort. That is whyin our nations earlier history, when character was more universally taught, understood, and worked onit was a common saying, Behind every great man stands a good woman. In our more cynical age, that became the humorous, Behind every great man stands a surprised mother-in-law. But if the man is truly great, the mother-in-law will not be surprised; she will know her daughter coached him to greatness. Theres a Chinese saying about thoughts, You cant stop the birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from making a nest in your hair. Character development begins with your thought life. Thoughts do not just happen to you; they are under your control. Identify the thoughts you want to think, and refuse to entertain others. When negative thoughts pop up, have a set of memorized antidote thoughtsyour chosen beliefs, an encouraging song, or a recounting of your blessingsto which you can turn your attention. After a while turning from negativity and ugliness becomes automatic. By taking control of your thoughts, you ultimately control the formation of your character. Tryon Edwards (great-grandson of Jonathan Edwards, the well-known New England preacher of Colonial times) expressed it neatly, Thoughts lead on to purposes; purposes go forth in action; actions form habits; habits decide character; and character fixes our destiny. Men: You already know what good character is; you know it when you see it. Few will contest that it includes honesty, promise-keeping, integrity (that is, having all your thoughts, words, and deeds bear the same message, even when no ones looking or listening), loyalty, virtue, and love. Do these words describe your character? If not, where are you falling short? If you examine yourself, youll find you have wrong habits in that area. To improve your character, isolate those habits, and plan to change them. Then enlist help: Your Coach will be your greatest aid. Aristotle wrote, We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit. You have the power to change your life. http://AwesomeMarriage.com - Dr. Joel Orr, “The Marriage Fixer,” is a world-renowned consultant, speaker, and author on computer technology for engineers and architects.
